Lady Gaga Boots "Alejandro" Up The Chart, Performs On 'American Idol'

This week "OMG" becomes Usher's ninth #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, its steady climb thanks in no small part to him belting it out on American Idol recently. And while it's a marginally better song than Usher's last chart-topper "Love In This Club," it's still falls into that category of weak R&B/dance that includes hollow tunes like Taio Cruz's "Break Your Heart," Jay Sean's "Down" and anything by Jason Derulo. It's kind of like there's a cake in front of us, but it's all icing with nothing underneath.

Moving on to sexier jams, Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" jumps up four positions to #16. And like Usher, last night Gaga performed the Ace Of Base-esque jam on American Idol. Now, maybe it's just me, but it didn't really seem to work in that setting. Something about the whole performance was a bit off.

It is good to see Gaga scandalizing the Idol set with such an arty display.

Moving on, La Roux slide up to #29 with "Bulletproof." Now here's a group that needs to go onto American Idol, so they can finally kick this single into hit territory.

And speaking of singles that could use a boost, Christina Aguilera's video premiere last week for "Not Myself Tonight" bumps the song up a mere three positions on the Hot 100 to #46. That said, I still like it. Let's just hope she's got a killer ballad waiting in the wings for single number two.
