So we haven't done a Chart Watch in the U.S. this week, not because we are lazy, it was more there was not really many surprises, apart from one lady that caught our eye.... Keri Hilson.
Keri has been around for a while but we think this could be her year! This R&B singer and song writer is due for some major spotlight when you look at her history and what she has achieved so far! Raised in Georgia, Hilson started off as a songwriter, as part of the five-person production/songwriting team known as The Clutch.
Then going on to write a few hits for a few pop stars you might know… various Mary J. Blige hits including Take Me As I Am, the Pussycat Dolls Wait a Minute, Ciara’s Like a Boy and Britney Spears' Gimme More. Oh, she was also provided backing vocals to Brit’s album Blackout.
Her debut album In a Perfect World peaked at No.4 in the Billboard 200, No.1 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, earned her 2 Grammy Awards and featured hits tracks Knock You Down and Turnin Me On
Her latest album on offer is No Boys Allowed, which is telling the story of when a woman reaches that time in her life when you need a man, a real man, not a boy in man’s clothing! (We hear you there honey!)
Debut track off the album was Breaking Point produced by the once favoured by all popstars, Timbaland. Failing to make a real dent in the chart by only peaking at No. 44 it did not match her previous success. (We blame TimbaBLAND for the failure of her first release, he’s sooooo 2006! Its been done already!)
However, to the rescue was Pretty Girl Rock (we <3 this song) reaching No.10 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and received critical acclaim. The music video is quite extraordinary paying homage to musical icons of the past such as Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Janet Jackson and TLC to name a few.
Hilson may not be new to the music industry, actually compared to some, she is an old timer now, however, we think this girl has bucket full of talent to go far in this crazy world of pop. Watch out for her third album currently being written however until then, here’s Pretty Girl Rock which is becoming a frequently played at the SCP HQ stereo!
