A little over a year ago, I was at a friend's house and they urged me to read this "teenage vampire romance novel"—about an alienated girl who falls for a bloodsucker in a suburban Washington state high school—called Twilight. The ball and chain flew through it in two days, then read the second and third books in the series by the week's end. I read the first one, and while not completely overwhelmed, appreciated the horror aspects of it all.
As the months went by, it was somewhat intriguing to find that Brit actor Robert Pattinson—who D'luv had d'lust for way back in his days as Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter movies—was cast as main vampire Edward Cullen in the feature film.
Also interesting is that the very first company I worked for upon moving to L.A. nine years ago, Summit Entertainment, is producing the film.
Christ, when I worked there, the classiest shit they did was distribute American Pie and Blair Witch Project overseas, and make godawful straight-to-video garbage like Kill The Man, starring Luke Wilson.
Meanwhile, now that the release of the latest Harry Potter flick has been pushed to next summer, Twilight has been moved up to Potter's original Thanksgiving weekend release date.
Here's the newest trailer:
It's crazy to see the huge cult following of Twilight spill over into the mainstream just within the past year.
