Really, the title of this post says it all. "Rude Boy" climbs up from #23 to #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. Not surprising, since everytime I turn on the damn radio, that Rihanna jam is playing.And, really, I'm not complaining—it's actually the first single choice off the cheerless Rated R that I like. Releasing "Russian Roulette" first was the equivalent of throwing a wet towel on a dead hooker on fire. And "Hard" was a depressing four minutes in search of a melody.
Yes, "Rude Boy" I can get behind. But let's speed up the inevitable album re-release with a "Please Don't Stop The Music" or two tacked on, baby. 'Cause Ke$ha is stealing your party thunder.
Taio Cruz lands his first American hit as "Break Your Heart" debuts at #52 (no doubt aided by the inclusion of Ludacris on the song). And, yeah—I'm calling this single a hit already, because it was added to iTunes two days ago and is already #1 there. Looks like following the Jay Sean/"Down" formula of tacking a rapper onto a Brit singer's U.S. debut = smasheroo!The Usual Suspects: A quick rundown of some of of pop's current slow pokes finds Lady Gaga and Beyonce's "Telephone" up from #14 to #12 (video premiering Monday!), The Script cracking the Top 20 at #19 with "Breakeven," Adam Lambert up four notches to #24 with "Whataya Want From Me" and OneRepublic clawing their way to #25 with "All The Right Moves" in the song's 21st week on the Hot 100.
Over on the album chart, Sade's Soldier Of Love is #1 for a third week, bringing its sales total to over 800,000 copies.
