The three-disc Commom People: The Britpop Story compilation will be released on June 8 in the U.K. You may recall the rather comprehensive and chronological four-disc set Rhino put out here in the States in late 2007, The Brit Box: U.K. Indie, Shoegaze, And Brit-Pop Gems Of The Last Millenium.
Common People contains many of the same classics collected on The Brit Box: Elastica "Stutter," Gay Dad "Oh Jim," Pulp "Common People," Saint Etienne "You're In A Bad Way," These Animal Men "Speeed King," etc.
But also included are Dubstar's "Stars," Menswear's "Daydreamer" and Stone Roses' "Love Spreads." Common People will also boast sleevenotes written by Saint Etienne's Bob Stanley!
Notably absent are any songs by Oasis and Blur, however, the two biggest bands to come out of the Britpop era.
